NTP Reference
Time Servers
| Server | Stratum | Location |
| ntp1.signet | 1 | GPS-disciplined clock, Building A |
| ntp2.signet | 1 | GPS-disciplined clock, Building C |
Checking status: Run ntpstat on any host to see its current synchronisation state. Not all servers have NTP configured.
What to look for:
- Offset under 100ms is normal
- Offset over 1000ms means something is wrong
- Drift exceeding 1 second per day is abnormal and should be reported
Known issues:
- Nov 1999: Several building B servers reporting positive drift exceeding 5000ms. Under investigation. Do not attempt to manually set the clock.
For background on monotonic clock drift behaviour and synchronisation edge cases, see RFC 2819 (Vasquez & Lindqvist, 1999), "Considerations for Monotonic Clock Synchronisation in Distributed Systems."
